I, Willie’s Feeder Lady, have volunteered and worked with animal rescues in our area for awhile now and this is how Willie came into our lives of course.
Willie was pulled by one of the rescues I work with from animal control in Virginia after being taken off a property where they were fighting and abusing their many dogs. Unfortunately Willie was the only dog who ended up surviving. I was at first Willie’s ambassador at the rescue while he spent some time in the medical unit recovering from a few surgeries and fighting heart worm until we could bring him home to foster. Like I’ve seen with a lot of dogs, Willie was a completely different dog inside the shelter compared to who he was in our home. Just getting out of those stressful environments, removing barriers and getting them into a safe place where they can decompress can change a dog’s behavior & emotions tremendously and open them up to a whole new outlook on life.
My hope is that Willie’s story can possibly inspire others to take a chance on the dog’s that most people pass on by because of their age, history, breed, appearance, upbringing, how they show in a kennel, or, like in Willie’s case, a mix of all of the above. I believe Willie proves that all of these dogs deserve a real chance at happiness!
