About Us

Can you imagine an America where no pet is killed in a shelter again simply for being unwanted? We can. Led by Best Friends Animal Society, the NKLA initiative is poised to serve as a model for how the entire nation can become no-kill, with no pet ever having to die in a shelter again simply because they do not have a home.

NKLA (No-Kill Los Angeles) brings together passionate individuals, city shelters and an entire coalition of animal welfare organizations to end the killing of homeless pets in L.A. city shelters by the year 2017.

Our plan is straightforward: Provide spay/neuter services where they are needed most so that fewer animals go into shelters and increase adoptions so that more animals are placed into new homes. In 2015, the NKLA Coalition helped find homes for about 27,100 dogs and cats, and Best Friends provided support for about 14,700 spay/neuter surgeries for L.A. pets.

Our NKLA Adoption Center houses adoptable dogs and cats, pulled from LA Animal Services shelters. as well as allocating space to NKLA coalition partners providing a premier location to showcase their adoptable pets.

Since the launch of NKLA in 2012, the number of pets being killed in L.A. city shelters has decreased by 66%. Join us. Together, we can Save Them All®.
