The single most well known herb for supporting a restful state in dogs, in a sweet vegetable glycerin base that makes administration easy. Made with the finest organic Valeriana officinalis root available anywhere.
Valerian is the most widely recognized herbal sedative. Valerian works safely and gently to help calm the nerves and achieve physical relaxation. It does not induce an altered state like one would expect from a prescription sedative. Herbalists use valerian for insomnia & nervous anxiety & to help the body relax in the presence of physical pain. It's useful in calming pets during thunderstorms, car trips, or after surgery. For epileptic pets, it sometimes helps to reduce the frequency and severity of seizures.
Primary Medicinal Activities: Sedative, antipasmodic, anticonvulsive, expels intestinal gas, lowers blood pressure
Strongest Affinities: Nervous system, digestive tract
When used as a sedative, valerian is most effective when small doses are given several times a day over a period of several days. This is especially true when anticipating a high-anxiety event. In these cases, dogs can be fed 5 drops of the tincture 3-4 times daily, starting 3 days prior to the event.
For digestive & antiepileptic uses, 0.25 - 0.5 milliliter of the tincture can be fed for each 30 lbs of a pet's body weight 2-3 times per day.
